Natural Wood Rosary with Guadalupe Connector

In Santa Fe and northern New Mexico, our Catholic tradition is strong. For hundreds of years, we have celebrated this tradition with prayer and the merging of Hispanic, Mexican, Native American, and Anglo heritage. Many have tried to trace the history of the rosary in our region, and it appears to have arrived with the Spanish Conquistadores in Colonial times. Crystal rosaries were imported by the trade caravans, but wood rosaries such as those carried by Franciscan priests have always been found in our Spanish Colonial art and literature.

We have just begun to make and sell wood rosaries, and are learning the art of traditional knotted cord rosaries. Check back often as we grow our inventory.

Olive Wood Beads
Special rosaries, including many that are sold in the Holy Land and the Vatican, are made of wood from olive trees. The olive tree has both a sentimental and religious significance. According to the Bible, it is believed that Jesus prayed underneath an olive tree in the Garden of Gethsemane after the Last Supper. This sacred tree is still in existence today. The Bible repeatedly refers to the olive tree as a symbol of peace, fertility, and prosperity. In the story of Noah's Ark, a branch from an olive tree was brought back to the Ark by Noah's Dove symbolizing peace. Also, on Palm Sunday, many pilgrims carry olive wood branches commemorating the Lord's entry into Jerusalem. Thus, the olive tree became a dominant symbol of the Holy Land.
